SCPRA Worker — Maintenance & Grounds

Maintenance & Groundskeeper (Part-Time)
Reports To: SCPRA Director
Purpose: The maintenance and groundskeeper role is a position with the primary responsibility for outdoor maintenance, repairs, and clean-up of park amenities and equipment.
Overview:
Join our team as a Maintenance & Groundskeeper, where you will play a vital role in supporting the daily flow of our Parks and Recreation Authority. This part-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to the experience, interest and hobbies of community residents. Working mostly outdoors the required task will allow you to serve the department by aiding in the appearance and overall care for the features visitors most enjoy. You will work in multiple parks, with a centralized maintenance shed location, and preform essential task for the smooth functioning of all the park and recreation facilities.
Environment and Work Setting:
The assignment of this position will often be a work-alone condition while following task assigned by the SCPRA Director. The role can expect to work in adverse weather conditions, including outdoors in the heat and cooler temperatures as necessary. The location of a maintenance shed will serve as the main work headquarters for supplies and equipment, and will provide a workshop like setting for operations.
Work Schedule:
This is a part-time position, of up-to 24 hours per week, with a demand for flexible scheduling based on departmental needs. Evening and weekend hours will be required to support visitors with rentals or those attending scheduled events or programs, and monitor the facilities.
Coverage on the 4th of July is required.
Responsibilities:
1. Facility Management & Support:
· Rake, trim, clear, cut, weed, and sweep bushes, gardens, and trees
· Remove and empty trash can, pickup liter, and clean bathrooms
· Painting, repairs to equipment and fixtures, and basic construction
2. Equipment Use & Service:
· Operate golf cart, gator, tractor, and other tools and machinery
· Use handheld tools, saws, compressors, and field lining equipment
· Drive a dump truck, plus use loader and trailers to haul materials
3. Site Assistance & Coordination:
· Care for athletic fields and enhance playing surface
· Fix, move, build, or repair pavilions, benches, trails, and bleachers
· Maintain cleanliness or common areas, pickup branches and sticks
4. Public Relations & Monitoring:
· Keep a professional tone, attitude, and interactions with visitors
· Report misuse, damage, and alarming behavior
· Assist with high volume events and provide setup and/or security (i.e. 4th of July)
5. All Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in trade work or coursework related to mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, and/or electrical is a plus
· Previous maintenance training, include knowledge about handyman services
· Ability to operate equipment, familiarity with tools and construction concepts
· Proficiency is basic repairs, landscape management, and general upkeep standards
· Outdoor maintenance experience preferred, to including mowing, gardening, painting
· Previous care for athletic fields is highly desirable
· Custodial and cleaning experience is a plus
· Must have a valid drivers license, with alternate classifications optional (i.e. CDL a plus)
· It will be necessary to lift up to 50 pounds at times and stand for extended periods
· Passionate and enthusiasm for the outdoors, and desire for making improvements
· Knowledge of parks and recreation principles and facilities is a plus
· Familiarity with local government and municipality setting is highly desirable
· Good communication and customer service skills
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
· Work a flexible shift schedule, including some holidays. Be available on the 4th of July
Compensation:
Rate Is Paid Hourly: Up to $20.00 (based on experience)
