Nature Education
The SCPRA is looking to advance nature recreation, and build a passion for the outdoors with a focus on Nature Education by exploring the wilderness, learning about wildlife, and engaging in activities such as hiking, bird-house making, kite flying, and scavenger hunts!
In the coming year(s) more effort will be made to bring you programming centered around these sort of interests, hobbies, and ventures. Furnace Run Nature Park (located at 2244 Lindsay Lot Road in Southampton Township Frankin County) will play a key factor in those offerings with a facility that is expected to welcome nature-lovers by Spring 2025!
As we await it’s opening, and with the addition of a new staff member very knowledgeable and passionate about you connecting with the open-air exterior of our local environment, some opportunities will exist in other locations, including at our Park & Rec Office.

BIRD FEEDER MAKING SESSIONS (Cost: $20)
The experience was a 1 hour 30 minute session, held at the SCPRA Office (677 Orrstown Road in Shippensburg) where children ages 5 to 10 years old were guided on a project of constructing a bird-feeder to take home. During instruction, points were made to help them learn about what bird’s like to eat. Session led by SCPRA Staff, Staci Wickard.
The cost of the class was $25.00 per child — and because the ‘early-bird’ gets the worm, the cost was discounted on an EARLY-BIRD rate of $20.00 upon registration opening. *Each session size will be limited to 4 children for best organization/use of space.
All supplies will be provided, and parents are encouraged to stay for the time duration.
