The Cumberland Valley Hitmen are ready to shock football’s fans once again as the 2017 season approaches. The Hitmen are a semi-professional football team officially recognized by the Great Eastern Football Association. Heading into their third year as a team, the Hitmen board looked to the future potential of the team with a focus on venue, longevity, and stability for the organization. On November 3, 2016, the Hitmen met with the Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority to discuss the possibilities of creating a partnership. On November 16, 2016, The Cumberland Valley Hitmen and The Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority came to an agreement to bring the Hitmen under the SCPRA umbrella, further strengthening each program.
CV Hitmen President, Clint Fogelsanger, noted, “The Hitmen Board was enthusiastic to meet with SCPRA to discuss how SCPRA and the Hitmen Organization could come together and further establish a local semi-pro sports program to provide opportunities for local athletes with a strong emphasis on providing entertainment and ongoing awareness events for the community in the spring.
SCPRA Director, Tyler Fairchild, said “I think this is a great opportunity for both the Hitmen and SCPRA. Both organizations are excited to see where this leads. The Hitmen have a lot to offer on the field, as well as off the field. SCPRA is here to support the Hitmen in any way possible.”
SCPRA’s role in the merger will be to provide facilities and administrative support to the Hitmen. The CV Hitmen Board will remain intact and will continue to run the daily operations of the team. By partnering, the two organizations will work together to provide adult football entertainment to the community. The Hitmen will make their first appearance at Veterans Stadium, located in Shippensburg Memorial Park, in March 2017.
